DALLAS (KDKA) – Pitt and West Virginia will have some new competition in the Big East Conference in 2012.
ESPN.com’s Joe Schad is reporting that the TCU Horned Frogs have accepted a bid to join the Big East Conference.
TCU’s football team is currently 12-0 and ranked No. 3 in the BCS standings. By joining the Big East Conference, they would be eligible to win the conference’s automatic bid to a BCS bowl game.
They currently play in the Mountain West Conference, which does not have an automatic bid.
Adding TCU to the Big East would give the conference a ninth team. Villanova’s football team has also been invited to join.
The conference change is not just limited to football, as TCU will be a Big East member in all sports.
The change is expected to happen on July 1, 2012.
